Welcome back, friends! After sharing a few intricate stitch designs, I decided it was time for something much simpler—but just as stunning. The Twisted Diamond Mesh is an easy textured pattern perfect for knitters of all levels. It creates a unique diamond-like structure using basic techniques, and the result is absolutely beautiful.
Whether you’re knitting a scarf, shawl, wrap, or just want to expand your stitch library, this one is a must-try.
Why You’ll Love This Pattern
- ✅ Easy 8-row repeat
- ✅ No edge stitches needed
- ✅ Only uses a multiple of 4 stitches
- ✅ Great with both fine and thicker yarn
- ✅ Perfect for adding dimension to your project
Materials Used
For the sample in this tutorial:
- Thicker yarn with 4.5 mm needles
- Finer yarn with 2.5 mm needles for demonstration
You’ll also need to work a few base rows before starting. I cast on 16 stitches and knitted three rows in basic ribbing to establish the base.
Pattern Instructions:
Row 1: edge, Purl, edge
Row 2: edge, rep [M1LL, K2], M1LL, edge
Row 3: edge, rep [SL1, P2], SL1, edge
Row 4: edge, rep [(k4tog tbl, k4tog), K2], (k4tog tbl, k4tog), edge
Row 5: edge, Purl, edge
Row 6: edge, K2, rep [M1LL, K2], edge
Row 7: edge, P2, rep [SL1, P2], edge
Row 8: edge, K2, rep [(k4tog tbl, k4tog)], K2, edge
➡ Note: (M1LL) : The right needle is inserted into the second loop from the top, between the edge stitch and the next stitch, counting downward. Once inserted, the working yarn is grabbed and pulled through to create a long loop.
➡ Note: (k4tog tbl, k4tog
) : The right needle is inserted into all four stitches through the back loop, and they are knitted together. The stitches should not be slipped off the needle yet. Instead, the right needle is inserted knitwise into the same four stitches again, and they are knitted together once more. Then, the stitches are slipped off the needle.
See It in Action
In my video tutorial, I walk you through each step—showing the difference in texture when using thicker vs. finer yarn. You’ll see exactly how the loops are formed and how the diamonds begin to emerge as the rows build up.
