Crochet-Look Openwork Knitting Stitch

This beautiful 4-row stitch pattern creates an airy, open fabric with a crochet-like appearance. It works especially well for summer garments, lightweight tops, cardigans, cover-ups, scarves, and decorative sections of a garment.

For the best result, choose a yarn with good stitch definition and use needles that are suitable for the yarn or slightly larger. A slightly larger needle can help create a more open texture and a softer, more fluid drape.

About the Drop Ladder Stitch

The Drop Ladder Stitch creates an open, lace-like texture with elongated stitches and a soft, flowing drape. The finished fabric can have a crochet-like appearance even though it is worked entirely with knitting needles.

This stitch is especially suitable for warm-weather garments and lightweight projects. It can be used for an entire garment or as a decorative section in tops, sweaters, cardigans, sleeves, yokes, side panels, scarves, wraps, and cover-ups.

The final look will vary depending on your yarn and needle size. Using slightly larger needles creates a more open and relaxed fabric, while smaller needles produce a firmer and more structured result.

For garments, it is recommended to knit a swatch first to check the drape, openness, and overall appearance.
