Knit This Cozy, Stylish Beret in Just a Few Hours
Hi everyone! It’s Fariba from Watch Knitting, and in this tutorial, I’ll show you how I knit this loose slouchy beret hat with large loops. It’s beautifully stretchy, soft, and has that relaxed, trendy shape we all love. Best of all, it’s beginner-friendly, perfect for anyone who wants a quick and easy knitting project.
This beret works up fast using worsted weight yarn and 6.5 mm circular needles, so you can finish it in just a couple of hours. The design features airy stitches made with simple yarn overs, giving the hat a fluffy, lightweight texture that drapes beautifully.
🧶 Materials I Used:
- Worsted weight yarn (wool or acrylic)
- 16” circular needles – 6.5 mm
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch marker
🪄 Pattern Overview:
This pattern starts with a simple long-tail cast-on and a 1×1 rib brim for a stretchy edge. After the brim, we move into the large-loop stitch pattern created with yarn overs before every stitch, that’s what gives the hat its signature open, airy look.
Once the body is long enough, I shape the crown with a few quick decrease rounds until about ten stitches remain. You can finish it with a smooth top or add a small knitted knob for a classic beret style.
✨ Why You’ll Love This Pattern:
- Super easy and relaxing to knit
- Great beginner project
- Takes only a few hours to complete
- Fits most sizes — no stitch adjustments needed
- Perfect for gifting or personal use
💡 Tips:
- Make sure your cast-on edge isn’t too tight so the brim stretches comfortably.
- If you want an even looser look, use slightly larger needles.
- Add a fun twist by using a textured or multicolor yarn.
