The first step of knitting is casting on. Casting on means making the base row of loops that will allow us to make a knit fabric by connecting new loops in following rows. Lilac Flower Cluster Knitting Pattern

Lilac Flower Cluster Knitting Pattern

Hello friends, Fariba here from Watch Knitting! 🌸 Today, I’m sharing a beautiful stitch that looks like clusters of lilac flowers, with each section locking together in delicate Y-shaped lines. It’s an easy, 4-row repeat that works up quickly and adds a lovely floral texture to your fabric.

This stitch is perfect for cozy scarves, textured blankets, cardigans, or even decorative cushions. The repeating clusters create a fabric that feels both elegant and playful, while the wrong side stays simple and neat.

Pattern Notes

  • Cast On: A multiple of 4 stitches + 3
  • Repeat: 4 rows
  • Yarn & Needles (sample): Worsted weight yarn with smaller needles (e.g., 2–3 mm) to make the stitches crisp and defined.

Abbreviation

  • TW2 – Slip the right needle knitwise into the 3rd stitch, then into the 2nd stitch (continuing in the same direction), slip both to the right needle, and return them to the left needle. This twists the stitches in place before working them.

Lilac Flower Cluster Stitch Instructions

Row 1 (RS): Edge, repeat [K1, (TW2, K3tog, YO, K3tog)], K1, edge
Row 2 (WS): Purl
Row 3 (RS): Edge, K2, repeat [K1, (TW2, K3tog, YO, K3tog)], K3, edge
Row 4 (WS): Purl

Repeat Rows 1–4 for the pattern.

Tips

  • Keep your tension even when working the twisted stitches.
  • Blocking the fabric will help the flower-like clusters open up and show the Y-shaped structure more clearly.
  • Works beautifully in solid or lightly variegated yarns to highlight the texture.

This stitch is simple, textured, and full of charm — perfect for knitters of all levels. Give it a try and let your fabric bloom with clusters of lilacs! 🌿💜
